Is an LMS still relevant post-Covid?

Sep 4, 2024

Sometimes we do not know the importance of some tools, platforms, or resources until we face adverse conditions. In the Nigerian education system, a learning management system (LMS) is one of such platforms whose usefulness had been hidden before the COVID-19 pandemic. Though this has not been the case in many developed countries. The acceptance and popularity of learning management systems came because of the pandemic, but their relevance outlives that era.

During the Covid era, the use of digital tools for communication like WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, etc. reached a high point within the education system but was not efficient enough to capture everything needed for learning and teaching delivery. To understand that LMS is relevant even after Covid, it is first important to know that education is more than teaching (which many consider as only delivering course content) and learning (which many restrict to students’ attendance/listening in class).

Apart from delivering lectures, other important aspects of teaching and learning, like conducting assessments fairly, monitoring students’ performance, guiding students’ careers, helping lecturers to organise course content, smooth administration and organising students’ data, organised mentorship for students, and a smooth and stressless admission process, make LMS relevant after the Covid era.

Overall, if you are an institution that cares about what and how your learners learn, helping them discover their strengths and weaknesses and guiding them based on these strengths and weaknesses to choose a career path while also making them aware of opportunities and actualising them, then a robust LMS like SabiLMS (formerly known as ARGVLE LMS) will help. Though some may argue that this can also be achieved without LMS. Do you want to use your time and energy on what the system will efficiently aid you to achieve effectively?
